MetroLink Prom 2010: Party in Motion

EDITED 2011 to note that if you are seeking Metro Prom 2011 info, you should go to their Tumblr, here. And now, the original post:

I am coming out of blog hibernation to announce that it is time for the third annual MetroLink Prom! Yes, already! I will be driving (wince) all the way down from Detroit to attend, so you have no excuse for missing it, locals.

What is MetroLink Prom? It is a formal party celebrating transit that takes place on the train itself, with an afterparty at a bar because we can’t drink on Metro and it is harder than you think to dance on a moving train (We’ve tried two years running, believe me). Event details are in bold at the bottom of this post, and you can RSVP to the Facebook event page here.

Because myself and my MetroLink Prom co-founder and co-conspirator Liz “Miss MetroLink” Kramer have moved out of St. Louis (boo hiss), this year reigning Prom King Chris Andoe has taken charge. Chris made flyers promoting his run for King last year, and showed up in a full, golden king costume, with a posse. Chris assures me that this will be the biggest and most diverse MetroLink Prom yet, and after his performance last year, there is not a doubt in my mind that he will make it happen.

Dancing! Transit! Sequins! Corsages! Laughter! Pantomime tears of beauty queen sadness! A baby in a Cinderella outfit! If you don’t come to Prom, you’ll miss it all. Whether you’re a veteran commuter or you’d like to have an excuse to learn how to ride MetroLink while also busting out that one mindblowing piece from the back of your closet, join us. $2.75 is a cheap date, and this is going to be a good night.

One last note: I picked my dress today. Fuchsia is involved, as is a full petticoat. The sleeves may or may not be bigger than my head. Yes, this is a challenge, StL.

Yours for the journey,
Claire-ian the Librarian
(Queen of the #31 Mack DDOT bus)

MetroLink Prom 2010

St. Louis, MO. October 1, 2010

Hear ye, hear ye! It is time for the third annual MetroLink Prom, St. Louis’s only theme party for transit that happens aboard transit.

This year’s theme is Party In Motion. With the passing of Prop A in St. Louis, both public transit and the region are moving forward. And on Prom night, we hope the region will stop for a moment to twirl, shimmy, and get down, too.

Join us for the party! Dress to impress—formalwear is strongly encouraged, from the subdued to the bedazzled. Be at the Convention Center Station on Friday, October 1, by 7:30pm. Metro fare is $2.75 for a two hour pass. We will catch the Westbound train to the Big Bend Station. On the platform at Big Bend, we will elect the next Metrolink Prom King and Queen. This is a voice vote, so bring your entourage!

After the election, we’ll take the Eastbound train to Laclede’s Landing, where the party will continue at The Big Bang Bar. Party guests will get free admission and $3 drink specials. And really, there’s nothing like a fabulous drink special when you don’t have to drive home. While we’re at The Big Bang Bar, The newly elected King and Queen will have a spotlight dance on the stage.

Last year’s prom boasted 150 revelers at its height. This year’s gathering is on track to be the biggest and most diverse MetroLink Prom yet. From North City to West County, all are welcome to join us in riding the rails and raising a glass to toast our region’s Prop A victory. You earned it, St. Louis, and now it’s time to celebrate.
