Celebrate transit under the stars: MetroLink Prom is Saturday night.

October 30, 2008 at 1:52 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

Edited to add: Looking for MetroLink Prom 2009 event information? Find it here.

Last year’s info follows.

Come out and celebrate public transit with us! Put on your finery, get to the eastbound Delmar Platform by 7:15 PM on November 1st and join us for 2 hours of rejoicing and socializing aboard our favorite local light rail system.

MetroLink Prom will include performances, dancing like you wish you had in high school, prom pictures and a parade through Laclede’s landing. For those who wish to keep rejoicing after the prom has come to a complete stop, we’ll re-assemble for an afterparty with karaoke and beverages at Tom’s, 20 S Euclid, starting at 11pm.

Costumes and finery strongly encouraged. Now’s the time to have fun on the train, and maybe do a little rallying for our favorite transit supporting ballot initiative, Proposition M for more MetroLink!

Please remember, there is no eating, drinking or smoking while aboard the MetroLink, and you must have a valid ticket, pass or transfer in your possession at all times.

I hope to see you Saturday! Tell your friends! I’ve gotta go pick a dress, myself….

Save the date: MetroLink Prom will take place on the evening of Saturday, November 1st.

You heard me…. Metro. Link. Prom.

We’re still hammering out the last details, but I assure you: There will be finery and rejoicing aboard the MetroLink on November first, and you’re invited. Don’t just vote yes on Proposition M, vote OH HECK YES.

Thursday: Say NO to demolition and YES to pizza!

October 23, 2008 at 3:31 am (Uncategorized) (, )

Hey y’all,

It’s time for the next installation of Drinks & Mortar, the monthly happy hour about architecture, civics, and other delights. We’ll gather starting at 7pm on Thursday, October 23rd, at Riley’s Pub. Riley’s is located at 3458 Arsenal (Convenient to the #70 Grand and #30 Soulard buses). Riley’s is one of my favorite bars in the whole city, and I’m really excited that we’ll be there this month. It’s got good pizza, a respectable jukebox, old old wooden booths and marble tables, and just a general feeling of comfortableness and camaraderie. Riley’s is not in my neighborhood, but it feels like my neighborhood bar nonetheless.

If you’ve heard about D&M but you’ve not made it out to join us before, I really encourage you to consider coming out. We’re a friendly and varied bunch, and even if you don’t know anybody, I’m sure you’ll find all sorts of people to talk with about all manner of local and general city-related topics.

Once again, the talented Darren Snow has designed us a fantastic flyer. Here it is, for your enjoyment (and in case you want to pester anyone to come with):

Librarians, liberals, & libertines, this evenin’ at the Royale.

October 9, 2008 at 2:45 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

It’s time again for Dewey Decimal Drinks, the monthly happy hour for librarians (yes, this means you).

For the month of October, we’ll gather starting at 7pm on Thursday the 9th at the good ol’ Royale (www.theroyale.com), 3132 S. Kingshighway. There’s a patio and bonfire potential if you dig the fall weather, and…. well, there’s still a patio and bonfire potential even if you don’t. The Royale has food (sandwiches, burgers, pizza) and has a drink named after each of the city’s 28 wards. It’s smoke free indoors, to boot.

And HEY: Our pals at Drinking Liberally are having their monthly drinks night at the Royale at the same time, coinci… I mean… ENTIRELY ON PURPOSE. I don’t know about you, but liberal or not I say the more mingling the merrier. MmmMmMmm!
